Nahum 3:1-19Woe to Nineveh

Nah.3.1-19
1Woe to the city of bloodshed, all of it full of deceit, full of plunder, where prey never departs. 2Crack of the whip, rumble of the wheel, galloping horse, bounding chariot! 3Horseman charging, flash of sword, gleam of spear; a multitude of slain, a mass of corpses, no end to the bodies—they stumble over the bodies. 4Because of the many prostitutions of the prostitute, lovely in charm, mistress of sorceries, who sells nations by her prostitutions and clans by her sorceries. 5“Behold, I am against you,” declares the LORD of Hosts. "I will lift your skirts over your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame. 6I will throw detestable filth upon you and make you vile; I will set you up as a spectacle. 7And it shall be that all who see you will shrink from you and say, 'Nineveh is devastated! Who will mourn for her?' Where shall I seek comforters for you? 8Are you better than No-Amon , who sat among the Nile channels, with waters all around her, whose rampart was the sea, whose wall was the sea? 9Cush was her strength, and Egypt too, without limit; Put and the Libyans were her help. 10Yet No-Amon went into exile; she went into captivity. Even her children were dashed to pieces at the head of every street. They cast lots for her honored men, and all her great men were bound in chains. 11You too will become drunk; you will hide yourself; you too will seek a refuge from the enemy. 12All your fortresses are like fig trees with first-ripe figs: if they are shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater. 13Look, your troops are women in your midst. The gates of your land are opened wide to your enemies; fire has consumed your bars. 14Draw water for the siege; strengthen your fortresses. Go into the clay and tread the mortar; seize the brick mold. 15There the fire will devour you; the sword will cut you off; it will devour you like the young locust. Multiply yourself like the young locust; multiply yourself like the locusts. 16You have multiplied your merchants more than the stars of heaven. The young locust strips bare and flies away. 17Your guards are like locusts, and your officials like swarms of locusts settling on the walls on a cold day. The sun rises, and they fly away, and no one knows where they have gone. 18Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria; your nobles lie down. Your people are scattered on the mountains, and there is no one to gather them. 19There is no relief for your fracture; your wound is grievous. All who hear the report of you clap their hands over you, for who has not suffered your unceasing evil?
