Nahum 2:1-13 — Nineveh to Fall
Nah.2.1-13
1Behold, on the mountains are the feet of a herald, proclaiming peace! Celebrate your feasts, O Judah; fulfill your vows. For the worthless one will never again pass through you; he is completely cut off. 2A scatterer is advancing against you, O Nineveh! Guard the rampart! Watch the road! Brace your waist! Fortify your power mightily! 3For Yahweh is restoring the majesty of Jacob, like the majesty of Israel, though devastators have devastated them and ruined their vine branches. 4The shields of his mighty men are dyed red; the valiant warriors are dressed in scarlet. The chariots flash with the fire of steel on the day they are prepared, and the cypress spears are brandished. 5The chariots race madly in the streets; they rush back and forth in the squares. Their appearance is like torches; they dart about like lightning. 6He summons his nobles; they stumble in their march. They hasten to her wall, and the protective shield is set up. 7The gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace dissolves. 8It is decreed: she is stripped and carried away into exile, and her maidservants moan like the voice of doves, beating upon their breasts. 9Nineveh has been like a pool of water throughout her days, but now her people are fleeing. “Stand! Stand!” they cry, but no one turns back. 10Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold! There is no end to the treasure, an abundance of every precious article. 11Devastated, desolated, and destroyed! Hearts melt and knees knock together; trembling is in every waist, and every face grows pale. 12Where is the den of the lions, the feeding place for the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled with the lion's cub, with no one to terrify them? 13The lion was tearing enough prey for his cubs and strangling it for his lionesses; he filled his caves with torn prey and his haunts with torn flesh.
