Galatians 3:15-25 — The Law and the Promise
Gal.3.15-25
15Brothers, I am speaking in human terms: even so, no one sets aside or adds stipulations to a human covenant once it has been ratified. 16Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. It does not say, “And to seeds,” as though referring to many, but as referring to one, “And to your seed,” who is Christ. 17What I am saying is this: the law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not nullify a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to abolish the promise. 18For if the inheritance is from the law, it is no longer from the promise; but God has graciously granted it to Abraham through a promise. 19Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise had been made, having been ordained through angels by means of a mediator. 20Now a mediator is not for one party alone , but God is one. 21Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be from the law. 22But the Scripture confined all things under sin, so that the promise through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23Before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, confined for the faith that was about to be revealed. 24So then, the law became our guardian leading us to Christ, so that we might be justified by faith. 25But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
