2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 — The Man of Lawlessness

2Thess.2.1-12

¹Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, we ask you, brothers, ²not to be quickly shaken in your mind or alarmed, whether by a spirit or by a word or by a letter as if from us, alleging that the day of the Lord has come. ³Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, ⁴who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. ⁵Do you not remember that I was telling you these things while I was still with you? ⁶And you know what is restraining him now, so that he may be revealed in his own time. ⁷For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only the one who now restrains it will do so until he is taken out of the way. ⁸And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the manifestation of his coming. ⁹His coming is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, ¹⁰and with every deception of unrighteousness for those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. ¹¹And for this reason God sends them a working of error so that they will believe the lie, ¹²in order that all may be judged who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.
