2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 — The Man of Lawlessness
2Thess.2.1-12
1Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to be quickly shaken in your mind or alarmed, whether by a spirit or by a word or by a letter as if from us, alleging that the day of the Lord has come. 3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 5Do you not remember that I was telling you these things while I was still with you? 6And you know what is restraining him now, so that he may be revealed in his own time. 7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only the one who now restrains it will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the manifestation of his coming. 9His coming is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10and with every deception of unrighteousness for those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11And for this reason God sends them a working of error so that they will believe the lie, 12in order that all may be judged who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.
