1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 — The Day of the Lord
1Thess.5.1-11
1Now concerning the times and the seasons , brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. 2For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the Lord comes just like a thief in the night. 3When they say , “Peace and security ,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, just as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will certainly not escape. 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, so that the day should overtake you like a thief. 5For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night nor to the darkness. 6So then, let us not sleep as the rest do , but let us stay awake and be sober. 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10who died for us , so that whether we stay awake or sleep, we may live together with him. 11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up , just as you are also doing.
