1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:13 — Paul's Longing to See Them; Timothy's Report
1Thess.2.17-3.13
17But we, brothers, having been torn away from you for a short time—in person, not in heart—made every effort all the more to see your face with great desire. 18Because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, more than once—but Satan hindered us. 19For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting—is it not even you?—before our Lord Jesus at his coming? 20For you are our glory and joy.
Chapter 3
1Therefore, when we could endure it no longer, we were pleased to be left behind in Athens alone, 2and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's servant in the gospel of Christ, in order to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith, 3so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this. 4For indeed, when we were with you, we kept telling you beforehand that we were going to suffer affliction, just as it also came to pass and you know. 5For this reason, when I also could endure it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor might have been in vain. 6But now, when Timothy came to us from you and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good memories of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you— 7for this reason, brothers, we were encouraged about you in all our distress and affliction, because of your faith. 8For now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord. 9For what thanksgiving can we return to God concerning you, for all the joy with which we rejoice because of you before our God, 10night and day praying most earnestly that we may see your face and supply what is lacking in your faith? 11Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus , direct our way to you; 12and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we also do for you, 13so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones .
