1 Samuel 2:1-11 — Hannah's Prayer
1Sam.2.1-11
1Then Hannah prayed and said: "My heart exults in Yahweh; my horn is exalted in Yahweh. My mouth opens wide against my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. 2There is no one holy like Yahweh, indeed, there is no one besides you, and there is no rock like our God. 3Do not keep speaking so very proudly; let not arrogance come from your mouth. For Yahweh is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. 4The bows of the mighty are broken, but those who stumble are girded with strength. 5Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry hunger no more. Even the barren woman gives birth to seven, but she who has many children languishes. 6Yahweh kills and makes alive; he brings down to Sheol and raises up. 7Yahweh makes poor and makes rich; he brings low, he also exalts. 8He raises the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with nobles, and inherit a throne of honor. For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh's, and on them he has set the world. 9He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness; for not by strength shall a man prevail. 10Those who contend with Yahweh will be shattered; he will thunder against them in the heavens. Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed." 11Then Elkanah went to his house at Ramah, and the boy was ministering to Yahweh before Eli the priest.
