Haggai 2:10-19Blessings for a Defiled People

Hag.2.10-19
10On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying: 11"Thus says the LORD of Hosts: Ask now the priests for a ruling, saying: 12'If a man carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with his fold touches bread, or stew, or wine, or oil, or any food, will it become holy?'“ And the priests answered and said, ”No." 13Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, will it become unclean?” And the priests answered and said, “It will become unclean.” 14Then Haggai answered and said, "'So is this people, and so is this nation before me,' declares the LORD, 'and so is every work of their hands; and whatever they offer there is unclean. 15And now, consider carefully from this day backward: before a stone was placed upon a stone in the temple of the LORD, 16throughout that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty measures, there were only twenty. 17I struck you with blight, and with mildew, and with hail in all the work of your hands; yet you did not turn to me,' declares the LORD. 18'Consider carefully from this day backward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid, consider carefully: 19Is the seed still in the barn? Even the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yet yielded fruit. From this day on, I will bless you.'"
