Habakkuk 1:12-2:5 — Habakkuk's Second Complaint; The Lord's Answer
Hab.1.12-2.5
12Are you not from of old , O LORD, my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, you have appointed him for judgment, and you, O Rock, have established him for correction. 13You are too pure of eyes to look on evil, and you cannot gaze on trouble. Why do you look on traitors and keep silent when the wicked swallows up one more righteous than he? 14You make mankind like the fish of the sea, like creeping things that have no ruler. 15He brings all of them up with a hook; he drags them away in his dragnet and gathers them in his net; therefore he rejoices and exults. 16Therefore he sacrifices to his dragnet and burns incense to his net, for by them his portion is rich and his food is plentiful. 17Will he therefore keep emptying his dragnet, and continually killing nations without mercy?
Chapter 2
1I will stand at my watch and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what he will say to me, and what I shall answer concerning my complaint. 2Then the LORD answered me: Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, so that one who reads it may run. 3For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, for it will surely come; it will not be late. 4Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faithfulness . 5Moreover, wine is treacherous; the haughty man does not stay at home . He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, and like Death he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself and collects all the peoples to himself. Translation Notes
