Daniel 10:1-21 — Daniel's Vision of a Man

Dan.10.1-21

¹In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a message was revealed to Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar. And the message was true, and it concerned a great conflict. He understood the message, and had understanding of the vision. ²In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three full weeks. ³I ate no choice food, no meat or wine entered my mouth, and I did not anoint myself at all, until three full weeks were completed. ⁴On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the bank of the great river, that is, the Tigris, ⁵I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, there was a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was belted with fine gold of Uphaz. ⁶His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and his legs like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. ⁷Only I, Daniel, saw the vision; the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. ⁸So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; my radiant appearance was turned into a ruin, and I retained no strength. ⁹I heard the sound of his words, and when I heard the sound of his words, I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground. ¹⁰And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my knees and the palms of my hands. ¹¹He said to me, “Daniel, you greatly beloved man , understand the words that I am speaking to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. ¹²Then he said to me, "Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come because of your words. ¹³But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia. ¹⁴Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision is yet for days to come." ¹⁵While he was speaking these words to me, I turned my face to the ground and became speechless. ¹⁶And behold, one in the likeness of a man touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke, and I said to the one standing before me, "My lord, because of the vision my pains have overwhelmed me, and I have retained no strength. ¹⁷For how can this servant of my lord speak with this my lord? As for me, immediately no strength remained in me, and no breath was left in me." ¹⁸Then the one with the appearance of a man touched me again and strengthened me. ¹⁹He said, “Do not be afraid, you greatly beloved man. Peace be to you; be strong, and be courageous!” And as he spoke with me, I was strengthened, and I said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” ²⁰Then he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? Now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. ²¹But first I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of truth . Yet there is no one who stands firmly with me against these, except Michael your prince."
